One of my favorite things to do around the holidays is to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” whenever it happens to come on television. I don’t plan for it, I just always watch when it happens. There’s something about the movie that has nothing to do with the holidays but is a wonderful reminder of how precious life is and how blessed I am. It reminds me to live a life of purpose and to always take into account not how much money is in my bank account, but how much time did I spend with my friends and family around me.
So with that said, I found an old public domain radio recording of “It’s a Wonderful Life” produced by Lux Toilet Soap (I kid you not) starring both Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed in a live radio broadcast from 1947. It’s a one hour show, complete with the comical Lux commercial spots still included.
I encourage you to find some quiet time in the next week to make a cup of hot cocoa (or maybe a hot buttered rum if you want something a bit stronger), curl up on a comfortable chair and relax. Listen to the broadcast and reflect on your own past year and appreciate how blessed and loved you really are. I wish you all a very happy holidays, wherever you are.
“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
