If you are in human resources or own your business, you know it can be a herculean task to communicate all of the changes and different options that go into yearly benefits enrollment. You can have someone come in from the benefits company to talk through all of these changes, but even this can be difficult as you need to pull your employees away from their work. If you do this meeting in a large group environment, some employees may also be hesitant to ask questions about their unique situations. Maybe someone is pregnant and isn’t ready to “make an announcement” in front of a group of employees yet just to ask about what benefits changes that would entail. Maybe someone is considering picking up coverage that their spouse previously had for the family.
What many companies are turning to is video. With a benefits video, the employer can relay the information about the plan changes in a unique and efficient way. The employees can better retain the information because you can illustrate changes visually and reinforce it with the voice over or on screen text. Because the employee can watch it at their own leisure, it becomes less of a stress on the business and on the employee. If the employee is under the gun to get a project done, the last thing they want to do is go to a mandatory benefits meeting.
Best of all the call to action can be more direct because the individual isn’t being presented this information in front of a large group of employees, they can be watching it during lunch, between projects or at home with the spouses. So then they can discreetly email or make an appointment with the human resources team with any specific questions they may have.
Many of the benefits videos we create cannot be shared, because these videos are obviously very specific and some of the information cannot be disclosed publicly. As an example, here’s a recent video we created for Liazon’s Bright Choices Exchange. The Bright Choices Exchange video we created is geared more toward employers and human resources teams so they can understand how the software is built to help employees select their own health plans within companies. It’s also to show that they understand how difficult the balancing act can be between selecting the right benefits plans for your employees and the costs of those employee benefits. We created the original version of this video three years ago and were thrilled that Liazon selected us to update, refresh and design the new and improved video for their new and improved Bright Choices Exchange interface:
How about your organization? Are you utilizing benefits videos to communicate the changes during open enrollment?
